Understanding Your Cautious Kitty

This feline is good-natured, and typically forms a close relationship with specific people or animals. Their confidence can be built up to lower their stress level, and allow them to present their best self to the world! On the other hand, when their confidence is consistently low, fear can sometimes get the best of them and cause them to act out. This is their attempt to feel safe and defend themselves from harm.

Important points for your Cautious Kitty:

  • They are very sensitive.
  • They have low self-confidence (this can be particularly apparent in certain situations, such as when company comes over, or when they encounter another cat.)
  • They can have a hard time trusting others.
  • If they’re in fear the majority of the time, they live with a lot of persistent stress and anxiety, which also puts their health at risk.

Helping Them Overcome Fear

While we can’t change who our cats are (and, of course, we wouldn’t want to) we do have the power to make small changes in our everyday lives that will help them view their world as a safe place. Here are a few ways you can get started today:

  • Building confidence happens one day at a time, and one activity at a time.
  • Use small toys for play time with natural materials, such mice made of deer hair and leather.
  • Play with them in a space away from other cats, people, and animals.
  • Feed a treat or meal right after play.
  • Implement a routine and stick to it. Simplicity and consistency are key here!

Happy cat parents…

Toffee has now gone from a terrified poorly little boy, to a stronger happier cat that is growing in confidence daily. Thanks to Lauren’s advice and our persistence, hopefully he has a long, happy, caring life ahead of him and NEVER has a negative experience again. Thank you hunny for your help although I think you’re secretly in love with him too.

Clearly, my cat feels more vibrant and is dropping the extra weight.

This is a great methodical formula for success. I would recommend it to anyone trying to get their cat away from commercial pet food. Patience is the key. My 9 yo kitty is now eating raw food. Clearly, she feels more vibrant and is dropping the extra weight.

We knew we needed help to control some behaviors of our two cats – one scratched everything and the other hid from absolutely everyone. We were also pretty skeptical about a Cat Behaviorist…is that a thing? Totally worth it. I’m proud to share that the behaviors have been fixed which will ensure many happy years with the cats and two sane owners!
